The Land of the Free

I learned something today about freedom.

Ryan and I visited my brother's ward today for my new nephew's baby blessing. His bishop said in his testimony that we are free, regardless of where we live in the world, to choose freedom and life. We have everything we need to do so, and all we have to do is be obedient and follow the Savior.

My oldest nephew, Devin, was ordained an Elder a few hours later. He's leaving on his mission in September, and he's one of the coolest people I know.

Devin knows something about freedom. He's obedient to his parents, and he makes good decisions. While other boys his age are limiting themselves through their choices, Devin has plans to serve others nonstop for the next two years. And he knows that kind of work is liberating. Seeing Devin become an Elder today taught me that blessings really come through obedience.

Our founding fathers fought to make sure we have everything we need to exercise our faith. And through that faith, we are made truly free.

Let freedom ring.
