36 Weeks: Sprint to the Finish

I guess "sprint" really isn't the best word. But bed rest ends for me on Sunday. THIS Sunday!

That means I'll be going to church for the first time in seven weeks (assuming I can find a dress to fit over my expanding belly). I will probably even put on makeup and hold Lyla. I may decide to get up and make my family German pancakes for breakfast, just because I can.

My doctor laughed when she got my ultrasound results last Tuesday. She asked what happened this week to make things look so good and stable. She said it was by the grace of God that I've made it this far—which is absolutely true—and confirmed I could go off bed rest this week.

"How off bed rest am I?" I asked. "Do I still need to take it easy?"

"I'd rather you didn't have the baby on Monday, because I'm not on call then," she said. "But on Tuesday, you can go jump on a trampoline."

So I cautiously set a hair appointment for next Wednesday and confirmed I could attend a baby shower from Ryan's co-workers. I accepted our new neighbors' gracious offer for another baby shower on Saturday.

I have plans next week. What are plans?

Think of it, though—our sweet Nora, should she come any time after Sept. 1, will be born at full term (even though my due date isn't until Sept. 22). Can you believe that? When I was admitted to the hospital with short cervix/preterm labor at 29 1/2 weeks?

This last week has been a perfect kick to the finish. My sweet sister-in-law Jeanette came all the way to Dallas from Utah with her adorable one-year-old to help out, and Lyla and Lola have had a blast. We really do have the best family in the world.

We can do it! We are nearly there!
