Happy Feet

Two hours ago, Ryan took his last final of the semester. In seven hours, my convocation starts. My graduation robes are ironed, and at this time next week, we'll be in Disneyland.

How do we feel? We feel good. How good? This good.

Bre: Why? Did class go late?
Ryan: You know devotional is my cue to go to sleep.

Remember when people paid 15 cents per word for a classified ad in the newspaper?

Does anyone remember when there were classified ads in the newspaper? Anyone?

Remember when Craig's List stepped in and suddenly newspapers were making billions of dollars less than they were before? Remember how everyone figured out selling things online was SO much better than selling it in a newspaper? That was a good idea.

But I'm a little bit afraid that people aren't using online ads' free space to its full effect. Case in point — this ad that Ryan found on BYU-Idaho's Bulletin Board:


"This is a pretty good couch." Excellent. I think I'll take it.

How can you afford your head-crackin' lifestyle?

You know how athletes sometimes do really strange things to get all pumped up for a big game? I enjoy watching these as much as the next guy (er, girl) — what's not to like about the BYU football team dancing the Haka? But when I heard about this, I was a little shocked.

Owen Schmitt (who plays for the Seattle Seahawks) cracked his head open when he smacked himself with his helmet just before a game against Jacksonville. He missed the first play to get stitches, but he was back in the game later. And while I couldn't believe it actually happened, it's apparently not uncharacteristic behavior for him.

Jerry Seinfeld would love this. In "I'm Saying This for the Last Time," he pointed out how ridiculous it is that we even have helmets.

"There are many things that we could point to as proof that the human being is not smart. The helmet is my personal favorite. ... Now, why did we even invent the helmet? Because we were participating in many activities that were cracking our heads. We looked at the situation; we chose not to avoid these activities, but to just make little plastic hats so that we could continue our head-crackin' lifestyles."

And now we're using the helmet to do the actual head-cracking. Outstanding.
