Everything is Great

It's been a while. But if you want a short version of what's going on in our lives, you can watch this video.

To be more specific, Ryan will graduate (with his master's!) in April and begin his job at PepsiCo the beginning of May. We have an apartment waiting for us in Texas. Everything is great; everything is grand.

Our sweet Lyla is busy busy busy. She copies everything we do, tries out new words and outgrows her clothes faster than we can buy new ones.

Trying to list everything that's changing about Lyla is too daunting of a task. But I'll record here a few moments I've savored lately.

Like a few days ago, when I caught Lyla giving herself "squishy face." Ryan sometimes clasps her face in his hands and pushes her cheeks together, which she loves. But she did it to herself while playing with her cousins and laughed. All by herself.

I made baked potatoes for dinner last week. When the smell filled the house, I said, "Mmmm!" Lyla copied me. "Mmmm!" It's infinitely cuter when she says it.

I realized a couple days ago that her hands feel bigger. When she holds my hand, there is no newborn-like quality of reflexive squeezing or uncontrolled movements. She has toddler hands, always pointing and grabbing and pat-a-caking. When she points she invariably squeaks, "Wassat?"

She loves playing on our bed. She pretends to trip as she runs across it, obviously flopping to land on the pillows. Then she giggles like crazy. Stands. "Trips." Giggles. Repeats.

Lyla watches us and figures things out. Today I turned on the water and reached for the soap. As I did so, I saw Lyla rub her hands together. Hand washing skill? Got it.

Lyla is too smart for her own good and we love her too much for ours.

We are all in trouble.

She is so cute and getting so big! Her hair is changing color, too. She's not a baby anymore! It's kind of sad.
