Tiger Time and Table Toppers

I came home from work today to find that Ryan had been golfing all afternoon.

Well, not ALL afternoon. And not ACTUALLY golfing.

I think Tiger Woods Golf reminds Ryan of when he used to play it on the XBox with his brother-in-law.

Maybe it makes him feel like a high schooler again.

 Or maybe it's just cheaper than actually going golfing.

You should see his victory dances when he gets an eagle.

Lights up my life.

And while he was golfing, I got to work on this:

However, that was made more difficult by the fact that I had no brain. At all.

 It took me at least an hour longer than it should have to finish up the piecing.

I forgot I'd already cut the pink strips and couldn't figure out why I was running out of fabric,

then proceeded to piece together what little I had to try to make up for it.

After I FINALLY finished with them, I saw the neatly pressed pre-cut strips on the table behind me. 

So much for making it easy.

Then I cut half as much of the floral print as I needed

and pieced bits of it together to come up with enough.

There may or may not be three seams where there should be ... zero.

I also may have forgotten about the whole "right sides together" thing there at the end.

And I may have proceeded to press the seams before they actually existed.

BUT

It's ready to be quilted.

Let's all hope my brain starts functioning before then.

Obsession Confession

After five years or so, I'm ready admit that I might have a teensy tiny problem. A little brown and blue problem.

It started in high school when I was flipping through Utah Valley Bride. There was a picture of a cake that was brown and blue, and I fell in love.

I was all about the combination after that. A majority of my clothes were brown, blue, or some combination of the two. And as soon as I got the chance, I ordered my own brown and blue cake.

So this Christmas, when Ryan's sister said she'd picked out some fabric for me that she thought I'd love, I knew exactly what was coming.

And I loved it.

I used the fabric to make this quilt. It's the first one I've ever done on my own and it's sitting proudly on the couch in our front room. As you can imagine, there was already plenty of brown to go around.

I went right to work on this quilt after Christmas and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. I had a rough start with it (Note: ALWAYS make sure you're using a quarter-inch foot on your sewing machine when you need it. Never assume), but in the end it came together beautifully in all its brown-and-blueness.

I've even already broken it in:

in the best possible way.

If all the piecing, quilting and binding has taught me anything, it's this: if loving a color combination this much is wrong, I don't want to be right.
